Green Capes Super Pup Newsletter. Brown baby poodle in green jacket lying on grass in front of trees

Hello everyone!

In this issue: Meet the latest “Heroes”, new school construction progress update and more!

Meet the latest “Heroes”

In recognition of the work that LFC District Chairs do to promote our Lions Calendar Sales program, Green Capes sponsored a puppy litter.  The LFC District Chairs that successfully brought on new clubs to the fundraising program had the opportunity to submit potential puppy names based on the theme “Heroes”.  On March 18, nine Labrador puppies were born to Hattie and Gibbs.  The following names were selected for the litter of three females and six males:

  • Tango, based on the synchronicity between the dance partners
  • Maud, a well-known Nova Scotian artist who overcame physical challenges to create paintings which are collected worldwide
  • Daurene, the first Black female mayor in Canada
  • Rocket, a small titan with a courageous demeanour from Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Tupper, in memory of a former Lions Club member
  • Banting, in honour of Sir Frederick Banting who co-discovered insulin
  • Hansen, in recognition of Rick Hansen
  • Ranger, the caretaker of his domain, his home, his people
  • Royden, in memory of a former Lions Club member

We look forward to seeing these future Super Heroes in action!

New school construction progress update

As every foster knows, the key to making a great Superhero is to start with, and build on, a strong foundation, and like a Superhero, the school is also starting with, and will be built on,  a strong foundation.

Below are the latest images from the construction site, which is a hive of activity as they start to build the foundation.  All the utilities have been installed and are connected underground to the main lines and concrete pads are being installed around the perimeter for fencing.  Red crosses on the floor mark the locations where the concrete pillars will be installed, which they will begin installing in June once the metal support for the first pillar is in place.

The crew is also very excited to be fostering a Lab puppy beginning in June.  Most of the foster work will be shared by two of the crew members,, though during the day, the pup will be looked after by all, as it oversees the construction of its future University!
