Hello everyone!  We hope you all had a wonderful new year!  Many changes are coming in 2025, and we hope you will join us in making this our best year ever!.

In this issue, we have a summary of the 2024 calendar sales season, and “Thanks!” to everyone who participated. We are also looking for some fresh faces to join us, with new ideas to take us into the future!  Join us for a free two month trial, and help us bring the wonderful benefits dog guides provide to people with disabilities.  Plus updates on the new school construction.

Final wrap-up to the 2024 calendar sales season!

The 2024 calendar sales season is now over, and we have the final numbers in!

2024 has been our best year yet for calendar sales, with over 10,500 of our 2025 Dog Guide Puppy Calendars sold!

The Green Capes Lions Club would like to give a big “Thank-you!” to all our volunteers and supporters who helped sell calendars and spread awareness of the Green Capes Lions Club, the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides and the huge benefits service dogs bring to people with disabilities.  Your continued hard work and support helped to make 2024 such a huge success.

We would also like to give a big “Thank-you!”  to the new Lions Clubs who joined us for the first time this past season, along with our on-going lions Club partners who have supported us throughout the years!  Sales of our annual Dog Guide Puppy Calendar through our various Lions Club partners form the majority of our calendar sales, and we greatly appreciate their continued support!

We also would like to thank the various schools from across Canada who participated in our new School Sales Program.  By participating in the program, the schools not only raised money for local school programs in their area, but also helped raise funds in support of Dog Guides.    We look forward to working with them again next year, and hope to add more schools in 2025!

Lastly, we would also like to thank our generous merchandise partners for their support in making 2024 such a great year.  A big “Thank-you!” to the Foley Dog Treat Company in Nanaimo, B.C., The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Prince George, B.C. and Ambler Mountain Works in B.C..

We are looking forward to working with all of you again in 2025!

2025 is here, and what could be better than to help Canadians with disabilities receive the gift of independence, safety and happiness a dog guide brings!

And what could be a better way to do this than by becoming a member of the Green Capes Lions Club, and helping us raise funds in support of the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides!

Not sure if becoming a member is right for you?  No problem – you can join the club for free as a trial member for two months, and see what we are all about!

Did you know that there are fewer than 25 full-time members at Green Capes? Anyone is welcome to join, from anywhere in Canada! Most members are past or present puppy raisers, graduates and supporters, and we all work together to help make today’s puppies tomorrow’s Super Heroes!

Green Capes meets monthly via Zoom and currently conducts events in southern Ontario and northeast British Columbia.  Not only do we help raise funds in support of Dog Guides, we also work to spread knowledge and awareness about dog guides, and the benefits they bring to Canadians.

For a small annual fee of $95 (pro-rated, if applicable), plus a one time Lion’s International setup fee of $50 for new memberships, full members are able to host and participate in fund raisers, lead or participate in various club committees  and enjoy various fun and exciting members-only Club activities.  Full members    also have a voice at our monthly and annual member’s meetings, and can vote on various motions  that will help guide our future!  Members can even run for a position on the Club Executive, and help be a guiding light for the club and our future goals!

There is no better time to join, and a great opportunity  to change the life of a person with a disability.  Join the Green Capes Lions Club today, and help make today’s puppies tomorrow’s Super Heroes!

If you are interested in joining, just reply to this message and our membership coordinator will get back to you asap.

Green Capes is looking for an Events Coordinator

Do you have a talent for event coordination, and looking for an outlet to express that talent?  The green Capes Lions Club has the perfect opportunity for you!

We are looking for a new Events Coordinator to take over the planning, booking and coordination of fund raising activities in the Ontario region.  Most of our current fund raising activities take place in the Fall and early Winter months, but are also interested in expanding to include other times of the year.

As a member of GCLC, you would have the opportunity to introduce new venues, coordinate current events, and help us spread awareness of dog guides and the benefits they bring to Canadians  with disabilities.

If you are interested, or would like more information on the Events Coordinator position, please reply to this newsletter, or send a message to membership@greencapes.com, and we will get back to you right away.

Building on a strong foundation

With the foundation for the new school complete, crews are hard at work assembling the above ground framework for the new Dog Guide school.

Shown in the collage below is an artist’s rendition of what the new school will look like when complete, crews working on the second level framework, and an image showing the work completed to date.  An amazing amount of work has been done in just the past couple of months!

There is also an image of Supervisor Turner, working hard to greet people at a company meeting.  Although willing to wait on command, Turner still enjoys a good tummy rub whenever he can get it!

Top right is the south view at ground level. Bottom left shows many busy workers all over the frame of the new building. Bottom middle is puppy Turner acting as a greeter during a meeting, he is very good and waits on command but still prefers a belly rub. Bottom right shows the framework of the two wings are both complete

Upcoming events

With the conclusion of the 2024 fund raising season, the Green Capes Lions Club will be taking a short break in order to plan the design for the upcoming 2026 Dog Guide Puppy Calendar and the various fund raiser events that will take place later this year.  Stay tuned for exciting new event details and updates to come soon!
