Hello everyone! Welcome to 2025! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year. The 2024 fund raising season is now over, and we are now hard at work planning the activities for 2025.
In this issue, we have a few last minute highlights from the December 2024 events to share, a great New Year’s Resolution, and much more!
Highlights from the December 2024 events
December 2024 was a busy month for Green Capes, as we concluded the 2024 fund raising season in both British Columbia and Ontario with various fund raiser events.
In British Columbia, the final events for Dawson Creek and Mackenzie were held on December 6th/7th and December 14th, respectively.
On December 6th and 7th, Dawson Creek residents braved the falling snow, ice and cold temperatures to come out and show their ongoing support for Dog Guides by helping to raise over $1,800.00 in merchandise sales and donations! A big “Thank you!” goes out to the management and staff of the Dawson Creek PetValu store for helping to make the event a huge success once again!
On December 14th, a last minute, one day fund raiser was held in the Mackenzie Center Mall in Mackenzie, B.C., and with the support of local residents, helped to raise an additional $824.00 in donations and merchandise sales! Many thanks go out to everyone who came by to show their support!
In Ontario, a fund raiser was held at Brookfield Place on December 11, and two events were held on back-to-back weekends in Oakville on December 14th/15th and December 21st/22nd.
On December 11th, the fund raiser at Brookfield Place helped to raise approximately $1,600.00 in donations and merchandise sales. “Thank-you!” to everyone who came out to show their support for Dog Guides!

On December 14th/15th and December 21st/22nd, Fund raiser events were held at Oakville Place in Oakville, Ontario. The absolutely outstanding support from the residents of Oakville resulted in approximately $11,000.00 being raised in donations and a mind-blowing 400 calendar sales, along with other Green capes Merchandise! A big “Thank-you!” to everyone who came out to the events, and to everyone who volunteered their time to help make the events such an incredible success!

A great New Year’s Resolution
2025 is here, and what could be a better New Year’s Resolution than to help Canadians with disabilities receive the gift of independence, safety and happiness a dog guide brings!
And what could be a better way to do this than by becoming a member of the Green Capes Lions Club, and helping us raise funds in support of the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides!
Did you know that there are fewer than 25 full-time members at Green Capes? Anyone is welcome to join, from anywhere in Canada! Most members are past or present puppy raisers, graduates and supporters, and we all work together to help make today’s puppies tomorrow’s Super Heroes!
Green Capes meets monthly via Zoom and currently conducts events in southern Ontario and northeast British Columbia. Not only do we help raise funds in support of Dog Guides, we also work to spread knowledge and awareness about dog guides, and the benefits they bring to Canadians.
For a small annual fee of $95 (pro-rated, if applicable), plus a one time Lion’s International setup fee of $50 for new memberships, full members are able to host and participate in fund raisers, lead or participate in various club committees and enjoy various fun and exciting members-only Club activities. Full members also have a voice at our monthly and annual member’s meetings, and can vote on various motions that will help guide our future! Members can even run for a position on the Club Executive, and help be a guiding light for the club and our future goals!
There is no better time to join, and a great way to make a New Year’s Resolution come true. Join the Green Capes Lions Club today, and help make today’s puppies the Super Heroes that will change the life of a person with a disability!
If you are interested in joining, just reply to this message and our membership coordinator will get back to you asap.
Green Capes is looking for an Events Coordinator
Do you have a talent for event coordination, and looking for an outlet to express that talent? The green Capes Lions Club has the perfect opportunity for you!
We are looking for a new Events Coordinator to take over the planning, booking and coordination of fund raising activities in the Ontario region. Most of our current fund raising activities take place in the Fall and early Winter months, but are also interested in expanding to include other times of the year.
As a member of GCLC, you would have the opportunity to introduce new venues, coordinate current events, and help us spread awareness of dog guides and the benefits they bring to Canadians with disabilities.
If you are interested, or would like more information on the Events Coordinator position, please reply to this newsletter, or send a message to membership@greencapes.com, and we will get back to you right away.
Latest photos from the school construction site
Construction on the new LFCDG school began in the Spring of 2024, and an absolutely amazing amount of work has already been done.
Below is a photo from the site as of December 2024, showing the work being done on the above ground structures, as well as images of a well behaved and maturing “Supervisor” Turner, who still enjoys a good tummy scratch.
