Green Capes Calendar Program Presents: A Chat with Dog Guides
Did you know that Green Capes has pledged to sponsor the reception area for the new Dog Guides building for a grand total of $250,000? So far, we have donated $175,000 and this year, we need your help to sponsor the final $75,000. To learn about our sponsorships and how you can help, join us on November 5th at 1pm for a special Zoom call! What’s even more exciting is that Bev Crandell, the CEO of Dog Guides, will give us an update about the brand-new Dog Guides building under construction in Oakville and answer your questions.

“Thank-you!” from the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides
In July of this year, Green Capes made its annual donation to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. The following is the response we recently received:
“Thank you to the Green Capes Lions Club for a very generous and significant donation of $25,000 to Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides in July 2023. Your contribution has helped towards covering the costs of our puppy program and making sure our future dog guides are happy, healthy, and safe. Part of your donation went towards:
We are so grateful for the boundless partnership between Green Capes and LFCDG, but our puppy staff say it best:
An elite grooming tub
A washing machine
A dryer
A puppy warmer incubator and oxygen concentrator
Microchipping for puppies
The grooming tub has been an incredible addition to the building. Our old tub was 5 feet tall so it was an awkward height for baths. Huge quality of life improvement!!!
Our washing machine and tumble dryer work 365 days a year, from 8am to 8pm. We would not be able to do our work if we did not have working laundry machines. We wash and dry items such as towels (A LOT of them), blankets, stuffed toys for younger puppies, collars, and leashes.
Last but not least, all pups are microchipped and we are thankful for being able to identify our puppies.
Support from your club has helped fund these important items, which are already contributing to the lives of our puppies. And a proper start in life means these youngsters will go on to become Dog Guides and positively impact the lives of many Canadians.
With gratitude,
Merilyn DeFazio
Director of Resource Development”
Great work, everyone!
Green Capes partners with the Bert Bowes Middle School
Green Capes is proud to announce our newest School Sales Program partnership! The Bert Bowes Middle School, located in Fort St. John, B.C., has signed on to sell calendars as part of their school fund raising program. The following is a message from the school:
“The Bert Bowes Junior Alternate program provides a multi-level social/emotional/behavioral/academic support with flexibility and understanding. This program helps our students to understand who they are and how to grow; it prepares students to participate positively in society by helping them to develop pathways to transition to high school, BC Dogwood graduation, post secondary training and/or education and future employment.
Our eventual goal is to help them build resilience by developing positive and lasting relationships with community support.
We are grateful to partner with Green Capes to have the opportunity to sell calendars to support our program. Our decision was made because we support initiatives that endeavor to allow everyone to live supported and full lives. The service puppies are in training to help individuals have this reality. Besides, who doesn’t love puppies?
The money from this fundraiser will help Mrs. Navenda Wright take her students on field trips throughout the year and provide much needed food for breakfasts and lunches. We also, when needed, provide clothing and school supplies throughout the year.”
Highlights from recent events:
The first two 2023 fund raisers for northern B.C. were held in Mackenzie on September 29th and 30th and in Prince George on October 23rd and 24th, generating over $2000 and $2400, respectively, in merchandise sales and donations! A big “Thank-you!” to the residents of Mackenzie and Prince George for their generous support! We will be having another event in Mackenzie on November 24th for Mackenzie’s “Plaid Friday” mall event, which is the town’s equivalent to “Black Friday”.
Below are some photos from the Bronte Harbour event that was held on October 1st:
